I was honored to have the opportunity to photograph Marie Tillman and the Pat Tillman Foundation for People magazine. Pat Tillman was a NFL football player who turned down a $3.6 million contract to serve in the United States Army. He died in Afghanistan on April 22, 2004. Pat’s widow, Marie Tillman, carries on his legacy by running the Pat Tillman Foundation, which awards military scholarships. My prom date and I :-)

In July, Inc. Magazine flew me to Cary, North Carolina to photograph billionaire, Dr. James Goodnight, for the Inc. 500 issue. His fortune is from his successful software company, SAS Institute. The company sits on about 140 acres of land and is large enough to be referred to as a campus. The campus features multiple buildings, sculptures, cafeterias, and many places where employees can have fun and relax. When I arrived to setup in the office area, I wasn’t expecting a “geology lesson”- his rock collection was quite impressive and his most prized possession is a meteorite. Hi! My name is Sarah Feldman. You can also call me by my nickname “Feldy.” I started this blog after sending countless job applications and resumes online and door to door. For months I heard nothing back. There were a few interviews here and there, but in the end I felt so confused.
I was a recent (am still) college grad at the time. I graduated from Parsons in 2010 with basically the scaffolding of a better future, or as I was told. So after I graduated from college, I started looking for jobs. With the hope that a college degree provided the best experience to move forward.
Sadly, I found that on most job applications and job posts on websites they were looking for someone with two to three years experience in the field. I did not.
So one day I decided with my website experience, I can make people looking for hire to come to me and see how creative I am. So, I created a website and posted pink fliers with my link everywhere around New York. I also hoped to create a community of unemployed I can interview.
To my amazement I ended up with over 10,000 hits in a week, an interview from CNN, and other people influenced by my site to start their own.
Now I have a paid internship at a boutique called APT 141, but I am still always looking for work on the side. I would also like to help out others find jobs.
If you would like to know how I found the job, it was by walking door to door with my resumes in hand. It took around 200 resumes to get this job.
So if you see a flier of mine, send an email, a comment, or a picture. I will post them.
Kiplinger’s Personal Finance gave me an assignment to photograph a courageous college graduate named Dianez Smith. Desperate for a job in this slow economy, she took the initiative and found a job the unconventional way. She stood outside on a busy street in Washington, D.C. and held up a sign to catch the attention of potential employers. Within a couple of hours, she landed an interview and that was followed by a job offer. I admire her for what she did, so what is her advice to others?
“Be bold.”
Last month, I traveled down to Washington, D.C. to photograph the Red Hat Society Day event. Over 500 Red Hatters were in attendance. Founded in 1998, the Red Hat Society is the largest social group for women in the world. The group is made up of women over 50 years old that focuses on fun, friendship, freedom, fulfillment, and fitness. You can view more images of the Red Hat Society at www.poontography.com

It was a pleasure to collaborate with my friend, Maggie Soladay, who is a photo editor at Corporate Counsel Magazine. I had an opportunity to photograph, Martin Pavane (lawyer), in New York City.

I recently hosted a critique party at my studio and invited many photographers to show their work. It was an amazing display of different styles of photography and I would like to thank everyone who attended the critique. I would also like to thank Phillip Romano for helping out with the event. There will be another critique this summer, so let me know if you’re interested in attending. All photographers, photo editors, and art directors are welcome! poon@poontography.com

I had a pleasure of photographing Dr. Novich for the March issue of Forbes Magazine. What inspired me about the tech-savvy Dr. Novich is that he is a one-man show. He does not have a receptionist to answer his calls or an assistant to help him with all of his paper work. Everything is wireless, paperless, and online. If you need to see Dr. Novich you can make an appointment with him online! To read more about Dr. Novich please click here.
